A comprehensive adult ADHD assessment involves considering whether the person being assessed meets the diagnostic criteria for ADHD or whether their presenting difficulties might be better explained by other factors or diagnoses.
For this reason, all of our professional ADHD assessments are conducted by a HCPC Registered Clinical Psychologist with specialist training in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of adult ADHD. Other professionals who can diagnose ADHD include Consultant Psychiatrists.
Mental health diagnoses can be complex, which is why it’s important to consult with a professional who has the qualifications, training and expertise to provide an accurate assessment.
-
A HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) registered clinical psychologist is a highly trained professional who has completed a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and has undergone additional training to become specialised in the assessment and treatment of mental health problems/disorders.
Clinical Psychologists are regulated by the HCPC, which ensures that they meet certain standards of proficiency, conduct, and ethics.

You may receive a formal diagnosis of ADHD at your follow up appointment with Dr Otway-Kerr. Dr Otway-Kerr provides an expert and thorough ADHD assessment process and is confident in identifying when an individual meets the diagnostic criteria for ADHD, thanks to her knowledge and specialist training in adult ADHD assessment and diagnosis.
If you do not meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD, the psychologist may suggest that another diagnosis or psychological understanding of your struggles is more appropriate. If this happens, the psychologist may signpost or offer to refer you to other services or sources of support, assessment, or treatment.
Dr Otway-Kerr is a compassionate and reflective clinician who is committed to ensuring that you feel heard and validated during the ADHD assessment process. You will be given time during your assessment and the follow up appointment to share your experiences and ask questions.
